České Budějovice
The town of České Budějovice was established on the confluence of the rivers Vltava and Malše by the Czech king Přemysl Otakar II. in 1265 in order to strengthen his forces in South Bohemia. The regular ground plan of the town with its rectangular square belongs to a culmination of the middle-age settlement in the Czech lands. The Dominican monastery - the group of properties, as well as the church of the Virgin Mary were founded at the same time.
The blossoming of the town started during the 16th century, when the new town hall was built, the town fortifying walls were reconstructed and the Black Tower grew. But fire in 1641 destroyed more than a half of the town houses. The town reconstruction took many decades during which the town was influenced by the Baroque style. Many Church monuments were built in this style, as was the Samson's Fountain situated in the middle of the square.

The Hluboká castle, founded in the middle of the 13th century by the Czech kings, was originally a fortress. Many noble families lived in the castle over many centuries. However, the most important family connected to the castle are the Schwarzenbergs who obtained it in 1661 and stayed until 1939.

The Schwarzenbergs reconstructed Hluboká castle twice.
Firstly at the beginning of the 18th century in the Baroque style, later on, they carried out a large castle reconstruction in the romantic style of the Tudor gothic between 1840 - 1871. The modification also included the park and the surrounding landscape.
The main model of the plan was the English royal castle of Windsor.
